Understanding Nutrition Expertise

Nutrition can be confusing. We are here to clarify the roles of health professionals and help you make informed decisions.

What does a Dietitian do?

Dietitians are university-qualified health professionals who translate nutrition science into practical, evidence-based guidance for individuals, families and communities. They work across healthcare, private practice, sport, public health, industry and wellness to support health at every stage of life.

  • • Managing conditions such as diabetes, renal disease and gastrointestinal disorders
  • • Clinical and intensive care nutrition support
  • • Pregnancy, infant, paediatric and women’s nutrition
  • • Sports nutrition, weight management and lifestyle health
  • • Food security, corporate wellness and community nutrition

Dietitian vs Nutritionist

The main difference lies in training and regulation. Both may give nutrition advice, but only Dietitians are qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy in clinical settings.
